Summary. I attended the March on Washington, DC on Saturday, September 12 with many fellow protesters of the Obama nationalized Health Care Plan and other extreme policy issues. It was a very peaceful march.

We were many in number although the media were absent (main stream had followed Obama to Michigan where a crowd of 15,000 gathered to hear him speak. We marched down Pennsylvania Avenue (1.2 miles) to the Capitol and stayed from 11 am until the end at 4 pm and ate packed lunches on the lawn. There were thousands packed on both sides and the middle lawns of the Capitol grounds with thousands more lining the streets and on the mall as far back as the Washington Monument.
At first you may have heard Saturday noon that the NY Times stated a crowd of 5,000; then you heard from the Associated Press which announced “thousands” attended but later changed it to “tens of thousands.” After the helicopter fly-over observed the crowd, it was increased to over 1.0 million; then ABC announced “1.5 million”.
On Sunday, the Associated Press was saying that “1.8 million” and then on Monday the Washington Park Service estimated “1.92 million” but the U K media announced at least “2.0 million.” At the same time, on Monday, the media, talking heads and a few TV stations were calling the March on Washington, the “largest gathering that Washington has ever seen.”
Keep in mind that TEA Party rallies were gathering all over the nation in each State (more than one in some states) with “thousands” attending at the same time as the massive March in DC. Many could not afford to travel to DC and held their rallies at home. These were in agreement with the protests.
Whatever the total number, it was an effort to send Obama and the Congress a message about the outrage we feel at the Administration’s insane policies concerning health care, cap & trade, bailouts, big government, 34 czars, capitalism takeover, national debt, out-of-control spending, government interference and creeping socialism. If all such programs take place, our country will be bankrupt and we will all live at the mercy of the "State".
Of course, the President left town and met with a small crowd of his supporters in a meeting in Michigan on Saturday and ignored the conservative gathering and its implications.
No one told us to go; no one paid us to go: no one bussed us in - paid for by some political group; we had no charismatic leader to speak from the podium. We just showed up and exercised our right from the Constitution to assemble peaceably and protest.
The President and Congress need a reality check: If they continue to ignore the concerns of a large segment of the grass roots citizenry, they may discover in the election in November 2010, for the first time that this nation is a republic designed of the people, for the people and by the people.
Over 40 buses went from Georgia totaling a representation of about 2,000 Georgia Patriots. Georgia was honored to be the first in line to march with the re-enactment in period costume of the Revolutionary fife and drums. All other states followed.
Personally, it was a fantastic, awesome and peaceful experience. Everyone was kind and generous with no mishaps occurring, perhaps because the opposition was not present. The Washington police force was outstanding. And no litter was left on the premises.
I had a seat on the Loganville bus with coordinator Charlie Eavenson and 46 other enthusiasts. We felt so much better expressing our opinions and peacefully protesting that we are planning another trip sometime before the November 2010 election. Perhaps elite Washington politicians will "hear us" then.
The Beginning.
